Mixed Media
Students are taught step-by-step techniques using pencil, pastel, acrylics, clay, as well as other mixed media, focusing on light/shadow, color, composition, form, and perspective. This is a broad class designed to introduce young students to a wide range of art forms and styles through art history, encouraging self-confidence and allowing them to find their strengths and interests. |
Sculpture
Students will start out by being introduced to a brief history of sculpture, covering different types and the cultures and artists that created them. We then will move on to explore realistic and abstract additive sculpture, using media such as air dry clay, paper mache, and found objects. Mass and form will be stressed, by which students will learn to make any 3-D piece interesting from all angles. |
Interior Design
Students will learn the process of professional interior design through a personal project; re-designing their own bedroom. The final product will be a full design board prepared just like professionals in the industry: including Inspiration Imaging, Floor Plan, Fabric, Finish, and Furnishing Selection, and Perspective Drawing. |
Modern Art
Students will explore the symbolic and expressive qualities of line, shape and color. They will learn to paint like Fauve artists, such as Matisse and Derain. Through creating spontaneous landscape and or abstract paintings, students will explore color mixing, and identify emotion expressed through color. |
Oil Painting
This class uses a classical approach to teach students how to paint realistically. We will be using still-lives as well as photo-references to study light/shadow, form, and composition. Art History and color theory will be examined. No previous experience necessary, individual attention allows students to work at their own level. |
Watercolor
Students will explore the materials and techniques of watercolor painting. We will cover the importance of the right paper and how to prepare it for painting, brush types and basic techniques such as dry-brush, wet-on-wet, and wet-on-dry. Students will begin with a free-form assignment, getting a feel for the medium, moving on to more specific subjects such as landscapes and/or still-lifes. |
Mixed Media Painting
This is a fun, creative class using photos and altering them with different materials to make a collage, theme or story. Students will use their own printed photos or color copies to paint and create their own personal creation! Please bring 8-12 photos or color copies (all different sizes) to the first class. |
Printmaking
In this class students will explore various techniques of printmaking, one of the world’s oldest art forms. We will cover such techniques as screen-printing, where you create your own stencil to print on fabric; collography, where materials are applied to cardboard creating a raised collage which is printed onto paper; and linocuts, where a design is cut into a block and then printed on paper. |
Mural Workshop
In this workshop students will get experience designing a mural to be hung at a business in Red Bank. Students will go on site to work directly with the shop owner to design one large composition that will be broken down into segments. Each student will then paint their own 'segment' on a stretched canvas and all will be hung together upon completion to create one large installation piece. Focus is on being a commission artist and collaboration! |
