Larry Jay Patterson has forever been a student of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture since attending The Arts High School of Visual and Performing Arts in Newark, NJ (1977-1980).
He has studied Life Drawing and Anatomy with Earl Mayan at The Arts Students League of New York in the early 1980’s, also Terra Cotta Sculpture at The Educational Art Alliance in New York City in the 1990’s.
He has had numerous teaching opportunities beginning with a mural workshop as an artist-in-residence in Newark’s 15th Ave. public school in the early 90’s; as an art instructor of self-portrait collage workshops at the Monmouth County Teen Arts Festivals (2004, 2005 and 2007). He has taught workshops in cartooning, pen and ink drawing, and stone carving at the now Thompson Park Creative Center (formerly the Thompson Park Craft Center) in the early 00’s and also a cartooning workshop at the Middletown Township Arts and Cultural Center in Leonardsville in 2004.
He has exhibited his drawings at several local libraries here in Monmouth County (Eatontown, Red Bank, Ocean) as well as The Newark Museum, South Orange Library and Paterson’s Community College.
He occasionally freelances as a commercial illustrator, graphic designer or commissioned artist whenever an opportunity comes available. He is currently enrolled at Brookdale Community College to achieve his Associate’s Degree in Fine Art (Studio Arts) later to pursue his B.F.A in Illustration and Sculpture.
Since 1988, Larry has worked in the Graphic Arts/Printing industry by trade from paste-up artist to digital printing press operator. But for fun and relaxation, he has been working seasonally at Six Flags Great Adventure as a caricature artist since 2007. He resides in Tinton Falls, NJ with his wife Mary and his son Larry Jr. and daughter Chudney. |
