David French…
 

David French was born in England in 1965. He has been painting/sculpting non-objective abstraction since early in his life and exhibiting professionally since 1985. He had the opportunity to pursue his love of fine art at Carnegie-Mellon University. While a student there, David received several awards for his work including the Joseph B. Ellis award for achievement in painting. He also studied under Washington, DC. color-field painter, Sam Gilliam, who continues to inspire the artist’s work today along with the New York School, Matisse’s early works, Cezanne and Frank Stella, to name a few.

David went on to present his first solo show in 1990 in Chicago, showing large mixed media paintings, collages and sculptures. David continues to show his work in several select galleries across the country. Currently his oil and aluminum powder on panel paintings and steel sculptures are presented in Painting Sedition, a solo exhibit at Montage Gallery in Baltimore Maryland. Also he recently exhibited at The Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg VA. George Billis of George Billis Galleries NYC & LA. juried this exhibit and honored David with the jurors choice award. Last February he participated in Painting Process at the Walsh Gallery, Seton Hall University. Next month in Chelsea NY., David will exhibit his sculptures in The 14th Annual International Exhibition at SOHO20 Chelsea gallery Juried by Chakaia Booker.

David has had favorable reviews in the Baltimore Sun, The Baltimore Examiner, The Chicago Tribune and Greater Media News. He appears in the collection of the University of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Consolidated Gas Co. and the Cincinnati Bell Information Systems headquarters among many other private local and national collectors.
